If you’re in the market looking for a CD/DVD burning and emulation software, you sure know that your options basically come down to only a handful of applications, each of them with its very own strongpoints.

Alcohol 120% is one of the guys whose opinion really counts in this particular software category, as the application has grown a lot in popularity lately.

Installing Alcohol 120% isn’t quite easy though, as the whole process is basically split in two different parts. First, the installer copies a few files on your computer and requires a reboot to continue which isn’t quite pleasing when doing something really important.

Afterwards, the setup kit continues as soon as Windows boots up, attempting to also deploy some unnecessary software that the app doesn’t require to run properly.

Once the whole thing is completed, you’re ready to run Alcohol 120%.

The interface is quite nice and although it hides so many complex features, it makes all things a lot easier. Each main function is listed into the main window on the left, while the discs and the virtual drives you’re working with are shown right in the middle.

There’s also a Settings menu, much larger than the ones we’ve seen in similar applications, so you can customize a lot of things when it comes to its functionality. It supports up to 6 virtual drives, less than its rivals, but still enough for the average Joe.

What we liked the most was surely the way it manages to interact with the user, as the application has everything it needs to address beginners and geeks alike. It comes with several wizards to configure more advanced functions step by step, but it also boasts a very rich settings menu for those already initiated.

Unfortunately, the application is quite expensive, as you’d have to pay around 60 bucks for a full license, although there are some free alternatives out there too.

· Windows 95 or Windows NT users, please pay attention as follows:
· Must install Internet Explorer 5.0 or later version
· Window NT 4.0 must update to Service Pack 5 or later version

· 32MB (or more) of RAM
· Internet connection
· 10GB (or more) hard disk (a 74 minute CD image requires 650-700MB)
· One or more bus-mastering SCSI and/or ATAPI buses
· One or more CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drives. You can use a CD/DVD recorder as a reader with sufficient hard disk space.
